Microdermabrasion Treatments

Microdermabrasion is a safe and controlled skin exfoliating treatment.

Micro crystals work on the skin using a hand held device, which gently exfoliates away  the very top layer of the skin, reducing and removing dead skin cells and skin debris.

The treatment is safe, painless with little or no downtime, as only the very top layer of the skin is removed so there isn’t any visible peeling or damage to the skin, this leaves the skin feeling smooth, looking brighter and appearing polished.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion helps remove dead skin cells and accelerates the rate of skin rejuvenation and stimulates the production of collagen. This makes it a great treatment for fine lines and mild scarring, such as acne scarring. It’s also a great way to unclog pores and clear congestion, leading to clearer skin. Microdermabrasion can also be used in conjunction with superficial skin peels to help with more severe cases of acne.

Microdermabrasion increases the effectiveness of skin care products as they are absorbed, and allows them to penetrate deeper into the skin, where they are needed.  Microdermabrasion gives quick visible results and can be used to treat a wide range of skin problems on the face, including congestion, pigmentation, mild scarring, dull skin, fine lines, as well as improving the overall skin health.

To get the best results a course of six treatments is recommended, for concerns such as lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, blemished skin and pigmentation.  Treatments are performed one to two weeks apart.  As the skin regenerates every 30 days or so, a maintenance microdermabrasion treatment is recommended every month following a course of treatments.

What happens during the Microdermabrasion treatment?

Our skincare therapist will asses your skin, before giving your face a double cleanse. Depending on your skin concerns, she will go over your skin 2-3 times with our hand held microdermabrasion device, slowly building up from a gentle to a high setting. The crystal microdermabrasion device consists of a pump and a vacuum. The pump creates a high pressure stream of the crystals which exfoliates the skin, while the vacuum works to remove the old crystals and dead skin. After this, there an optional extraction for congested skin, before finishing with a rejuvenating serums and a mask tailored to your skin concerns.

How long does the Microdermabrasion treatment take?

Microdermabrasion can last from 45 minutes up to 60 minutes depending on the session you book.

For first time clients, we suggest 45 minutes to start, gradually increasing the time with each treatment.

Does it hurt?

Not at all, you will only feel a slight suction effect as the vacuum works to extract the dead skin across your face, and a rough but gentle texture.

What is the recovery time?

You will be able to carry on with your day immediately after treatment. You may experience slight redness and flaking of the skin. You can apply makeup and return to work after the treatment. Because of this limited down-time, microdermabrasion is a great treatment to have the morning before an event, such as a wedding or party.

However as microdermabrasion works on gently peeling off the top layer of skin, it is very important to wear a sunscreen during your course and up to four weeks after a microdermabrasion treatment.  An antioxidant serum is also recommended.

    1. Dear Danny,

Thank you for contacting Face Clinic London, we offer several treatments here that can help to treat the appearance of lines or dark circles around and under the eye. It is difficult to advise you without seeing the area you mention, Microdermabrasion treatments can temporarily reduce the appearance of lines, as will treatments such as Derma-roller or skin peels. Alternatively if you are looking for more long lasting treatments then botox can also be used to smooth away the appearance of lines. All consultations at Face Clinic London are free, so please give us a call or an email to book a consultation and speak to a Doctor or Beauty Therapist.

      I hope this helps!

  6. Hi,

I was wondering if you know how to do microdermabrasions and peels for ethnic skin. Some clinics Ive spoken to are unaware of the slight difference in approach to treatment and so not trained for it.
Is this something you are aware of and could treat??

    1. Good morning,
Thank you for contacting Face Clinic London. Whilst we don’t treat darker skin with peels – we certainly do perform the Microdermabrasion treatment. Please feel free to give us a call to book in – or create yourself a profile and book in online. Kind regards

  7. Hi,
I have got mild scarring on my cheeks and a few spots, I was wondering how many sesh off microdermabrasion i would need to get clearer skin? Would i have to book in a consultation to see a beauty therapist so they can assess my skin?

    1. Good afternoon,
Without our therapist assessing your skin, I’m afraid we cannot give any detailed guidance on how long a course may take to achieve your goals. Our Microdermabrasion treatment is a gentle one however, and for some scarring it may not get you to where you would like to be. Jorge does have a package deal on the sessions however, and once lockdown is over I would be happy to book you in to see him and discuss this.
      Kind regards
