ZO Skin, Healthy Skin

You may have seen the luxe blue and silver packaging on our shelves, or seen us tweet about our tried and tested products, but how much do you really know about the new skincare range that’s taken our clinic by storm?

ZO Skin Health and ZO Medical are the creations of Dr. Zein Obagi – Medical Director of the ZO Skin Health Inc, practicing dermatologist, and head of the Obagi Skin Health Institute; just to name a few of his credentials – and have redefined the concept of skin health, helping not only to create healthy skin, but maintain it.

The ZO regime is based on a 4-step system:

Wash
Scrub
Oil Control
Defense

ZO also offer a range of products to help with specific skin concerns including; pigmentation, acne, fine lines and wrinkles, mild scarring. But what makes these products different from your average skincare regime? Using high concentrations of active ingredients, including pure retinol, and powerful anti-oxidants they work to activate and stimulate your skin to repair and maintain itself – just like it’s meant to.

Now the medical bit: The definition of healthy skin comprises skin that is smooth, even in tone, full, firm and tight, free of disease including acne and rosacea, well hydrated and tolerant to the environment. For this, the skin cells need to function effectively in order to have the correct balance of water, lipid and protein in the skin cell structure. Fibroblast cells in the skin are responsible for producing collagen and elastin amongst other things. ZO Medical products are engineered to kick-start the fibroblasts to life so skin is fuller, firmer and hydrated. Melanocytes control the level of the pigment in the skin. Uneven skin tone results when the melanocytes are not functioning well. ZO Medical products can target the melanocyte to ensure even skin tone and can also eliminate freckles. Acne and other skin disease occurs when cells are not regulated effectively, and the ZO regime is tailored to treat these problems. ZO Medical products are prescribed by a doctor and should be considered as medications for the skin. They are more potent than over-the-counter products, hence why they can only be obtained by prescription from a doctor following a ZO Medical consultation
